Yael Bartana is an Israeli artist. She was born in 1970 in Israel. Her films, installations and photographs explore the imagery of identity and the politics of memory. Her work is immensely popular in many parts of Europe as well as other parts of the world, mostly the USA. Yael Bartana is presently based in Amsterdam and Tel Aviv.
Academic Career of Yael Bartana
Yael completed her photography education and received a BFA in photography from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design Academy, Jerusalem. Then she received a MFA in 1999 from the School of Visual Arts, New York, and was an artist in residence at the Rijksakademie van Beelden de Kunsten in Amsterdam for two years.
Yael’s activities in the area of film, photography, and sound investigate the queries that pertain to society, politics, and spirituality. Bartana’s performed in ceremonies, she performed in rituals. Her early career involved working in Poland. She worked on a number of trilogies while staying in Poland. She was a non-Polish citizen and yet she represented Poland at one point of her career. Her video trilogies were displayed at museums, globally. Yael Bartana participated in a number of solo exhibitions across the world at places like the Museum of Modern Art at Warsaw, New York City. She has remained a celebrated artist during her career and has received a number of accolades for her performance. She has participated in a number of exhibitions across the World, at places in Canada, Europe, and the USA.
