Mai Thu Perret is a popular artist. Born in 1976 in Geneva, Switzerland. She is famous for her multidisciplinary practice that engages feminist politics, literary texts and homemade crafts together with a range of 20th century avant-garde and radical art movements.
Most of Perret’s artworks are centered on women of her era.
Education and Early Life
As Mai Thu was born in Geneva, Switzerland, she was exposed to European culture. In 1997 she receives her BA in English Literature from Cambridge University, Cambridge, England. From 2002-2003 Perret enrolled in the Whitney Independent Study Program at New York.
Since the year 1999, Perret has been working in a project known as the Crystal Frontier. This is a chronicle on the lives and work of women who have self-exiled in New Mexico. Perret showed immense interests in more than one disciplines including film and performance, sculptures, writings, artifacts.
Perret has a literature academic background and that helped her engaged in performative art. Many of her artworks including sculptures and paintings were exhibited at some of Europe’s and US’s popular art galleries. She also participated in a number of solo exhibitions and all these made her immensely popular as an artist. Perret has a number of influencers who made her popular as an artist. Perret contribution in magazines and many literary works helped her gain many accolades in her career as an artist. In the year 2011, Perret received the much coveted Zurich Art Prize.
